Chapter 7: News, Talk, and Blogs on the Net CNNfn, http://www.cnnfn.com UPDATE AND ADDITIONS: NOVEMBER 2004Online News and Media Services In addition to the general news aggregation home page that we listed in the book, we’ve recently discovered that Topix.net also creates special pages where it aggregates business and company news: Business News, http://www.topix.net/business Not only are headlines of business news listed on this page, but you can click on any of dozens of specific industries to get the latest industry headlines as well. Company News, http://www.topix.net/com/list A listing of hundreds of companies where Topix.net has aggregated breaking news Links to News SitesKidon Media Link, http://www.kidon.com/media-link/index.shtml A valuable source for locating online news News Alert Services NetNewsTracker, http://www.netnewstracker.com This is a new free news alert service we just came across that is worth noting. NetNewsTracker lets you track USENET newsgroup discussions (via the Google Groups feature) by keyword, with results delivered via email. PubSub, http://www.pubsub.com This is another very interesting alert service I like. PubSub is actually a cross between a news alert service and an RSS Reader, since after you compose your keyword profile, PubSub runs it against RSS Feeds of Weblogs, online discussion groups, and other collections, and then alerts you to matches via email and other technologies, If you’re interested in learning more about comparing the features and quality of competing news alert services, you might wish to consider a guide I wrote that was published in November 2004 by Information Today: Berkman, Robert. Choosing and Using a News Alert Service. Medford, NJ: Information Today, 2004 (https://www.infotoday.com/pressreleases/pr040908-1.shtml).
